Harmonia axyridis
Fall home invader similar to stink bugs. Beneficial outdoors (eats aphids) but nuisance indoors.
Overwinters in wall voids, attics, window frames. Feeds on aphids outdoors spring–fall. MD/VA/DC homes near agricultural areas see heaviest pressure.
Enters homes September–October. Emerges March–April on warm days.
Nuisance and odor. Bites occasionally (pinch, not sting). Secretes yellow fluid that stains fabrics. Can trigger allergies in sensitive individuals. No structural damage.
Perimeter spray in late summer before migration. Vacuum removal indoors. No indoor residual needed — they don't breed indoors. Avoid crushing (stains).
